Happy Birthday to my wife Augusta!. (Click HERE or on the image below to hear the song, "Marry You Again") She had no knowledge that this song had be completed, recorded and written for her. This song was inspired "loosley" by the ever-evolving nature of raising a family, meeting financial needs, and the struggles of everyday storms. Its not a secret to many that Augusta and I were married not once, but twice. And lucky for me, the nature of our relationship over the years has given me SO MUCH great material to write about that if you look deeply enough into most of my songs, you will find little nuggets of our life together splattered all over the lyrics of my songs. This one is no exception. I loved writing this song because I wanted to tell the story of a wedding, cursed with a storm, driving rain, wind etc and then cross it over to the metaphorical journey into the storms that continue throughout a marriage and overcoming them. The end has still yet to be written. (I just hope it doesnt end with a boat and a divorce...LOL) The lyrics are below. I hope you all enjoy this latest release.
Robert Abernathy (BMI)
Verse 1
I remember that white dress blowing in the wind
Doesn't seem that long ago, It was our wedding Day
And as the sky began to fall
They all scattered, was no one left at all
Except for me and you and that preacher man
They all thought we were insane
And we said “I do” a time or two
Beneath the driving rain
Chorus
Though the Storm just wont fade
And the Rain keeps coming in
And every broken thing from shattered dreams
Are just blowing in the wind
Andf if those flood waters rise
And try to drown all we have been
I’d still marry you, marry you
Marry you again.
Verse 2
Well Im not gonna lie and say its been a bed roses
Love is walking with a friend into a hurricane
If theres a time you gotta believe
Its when those waters recede
And your standing there drenched in what remains
We just say “bring it on, bring it on”
Bring on the Rain
Chorus
Though the Storm just won't fade
And the Rain keeps coming in
And every broken thing from shattered dreams
Are just blowing in the wind
And if those floodwaters rise
And try to drown all we have been
I’d still marry you, marry you
Marry you again.
Bridge
Should the troubled waters take me away
And should I ever lose my way back to you
Would you rescue me like a castaway
Whisper the words “I do” and say….
Chorus
Though the Storm just won't fade
And the Rain keeps coming in
And every broke thing from shattered dreams
Are just blowing in the wind
And if those floodwaters rise
And try to drown all we have been
I’d still marry you, marry you
Marry you again.
